COMPETITION RULES, REGULATIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION
• For this contest “Club Member” is an angler belonging to any club affiliated to the NZ Sports Fishing Council.
• All game fishing will be under NZSFC rules, including 60kg class and braid.
• Juniors may fish in the Te Hiku Ladies Competition, but to do so they must purchase a senior ticket.
• All anglers must have purchased their tickets by 3pm on Thursday 8th January. Purchasing your ticket constitutes
acceptance of the rules and regulations covering this competition.
• Breaches of any competition rules must be reported immediately to a competition organiser.
• All decisions made by the organisers shall be final. The organisers reserve the right to suspend the competition,
amend any aspect of the rules or terms and conditions without prior notice and for any reason whatsoever at their
sole discretion.
INFORMATION FOR SKIPPERS
• All boats participating should be capable of going to sea, meet Coastguard Safety standards and be able to
communicate with Far North Radio on VHF Channels 60, 61 or 02.
• All skippers should notify Far North Radio when they leave port and when they return to port, when they hook up,
when the fish is tagged and released or landed.
• Those boats going to the Three Kings must be able to have radio contact with Far North Radio. Contest radio will be
on VHF Channel 60; please keep use of Channel 60 to a minimum.
• Land based anglers are encouraged to carry handheld VHF for safety and communication purposes.
• VHF Channels 60, 61 and 02 belong to the Far North Radio Trust, they have regular skeds and weather forecasts at
the following times, 0735, 1335, 1735, 1935 and on request.
FISHING AND FISH CATCH REGULATIONS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES IN THE TOURNAMENT
• Size restrictions, Billfish must be at least 90kg, Yellowtail Kingfish must be 1 metre in length. Tuna must exceed 6kg.
• Billfish includes striped, blue and black marlin, broadbill swordfish and short billed spearfish.
• The Average weight will be from all snapper, trevally and kahawai weighed. If more than one fish is equally close the
average weight, the first fish weighed will be deemed the winner.
• “Best Catch by a Junior” is a meritorious prize for anglers 16 years and under.
• One prize per angler per category.
• Fishing area is within the boundaries of our grid which are on a line from the Hokianga Harbour (North Head)
around Cape Reinga to Whangaroa Harbour (North of Flat Island) and includes the Three Kings Islands. NO fishing
outside these points.
WEIGH STATION RULES
• In the event of any gameseh of the same species being the same weight, the first fish boated and called into Far
North Radio will be deemed the winner of that category. The exception is in snapper, kahawai, trevally and kingfish
where the first fish weighed at the weigh station would be deemed the winner.
• Weigh in times will be 3 to 4pm Friday and Saturday. Gamefish can be weighed outside these times by appointment
with the weighmasters.
• All fish must be weighed at Houhora. Weigh Station will be listening on channel 10 during weighing times.
• Fish may be caught from land and/or boat.
• No fish caught on longlines, nets, contikies, torpedoes or spearguns.
• A maximum of 2 fish per species per angler per day may be weighed.
• After a fish has been weighed it is the responsibility of the angler.
• Normal weigh station rules apply. All weigh sheets and tag cards must be filled in BEFORE you get to the
weigh station.
